Abstract
Chitosan is a valuable component for many polymer blends and their composites. Chitosan has various functional properties. Hence it has been used for the improvement of properties of other polymeric materials through blending. The advantages of using nanoparticles are controlling the particle size and surface area related properties. Nanochitosan prepared from chitosan, possesses excellent physicochemical, environmentally benign properties and bioactivities. In this study binary and ternary polymer blends of Nanochitosan (NC), Polyvinylpyrollidone (PVP) and Silk Fibroin (SF) were prepared by solution casting method with glutaraldehyde as the cross linker. Glutaraldehyde was incorporated into polymer blends to improve the properties such as Mechanical strength, Tensile strength and Surface hardness. The prepared binary and ternary blends were subjected to various spectral studies and the results are discussed.
