Abstract

After the EGSB (expanded granular sludge bed) reactor had been stopped for several months, the secondary startup research was taken place, and we have achieved the rules of EGSB reactor's startup and running. It is observed that we can identify when the secondary startup has been finished and whether the reactor could run regularly was according to the running efficiency conditions, i.e. whether organic loading of the reactor can fulfill the requirements. Aiming at original conditions, we could increase the COD removal efficiency obviously by controlling the inlet water COD suitably, and the biological activity of granular sludge had been resumed ultimately. When the secondary startup of EGSB reactor had been finished completely, the characteristics of granular sludge had become excellent, and the EGSB reactor had been provided with the strong capacity against shocking organic loading, so that the EGSB reactor could achieve the stable and high COD removal efficiency.
