Abstract

Intra-amniotic prostaglandin F2α was utilized for induction of midtrimester abortion in 133 women. A 94.7 per cent incidence of abortion was achieved. Seventy per cent of patients vomited and 13.6 per cent became febrile, but the incidence of other side effects was low. Sepsis, systemic reaction to prostaglandin, and cervical laceration were serious complications. Prostaglandin F2α effectively induces uterine activity. However, its safety, convenience, and acceptability have not been established.
