Abstract

Telecommunications Management Networks (TMN) have been evolving and becoming more sophisticated. Different technologies from different vendors contribute to complicate telecommunication management so that the need for integration and interoperability is growing. A general TMN computing platform architecture was proposed by the TMN Computing Platform Special Interest (“CPSIG”) Group, comprising representatives from RACE (“Research and Development in Advanced Communications in Europe”) projects GUIDELINE, ADVANCE, AIM, NEMESYS, ROSA and SPECS whose main objective is to provide enough support for the contrasting TMN management applications. This paper discusses the distributed computing platform support developed in the ADVANCE project and its relationship with the general TMN computing platform architecture, as well as issues of prototyping experience in the related projects, particularly ADVANCE, AIM, NEMESYS and ROSA. The important services suported by both the implementation developed by the ADVANCE project and the more general TMN platform architecture are identified and discussed.
