Abstract
The purpose of the study is to presents an experience of using songs and poetic works in foreign language lessons with bachelors of linguistics, future teachers of the French and German languages (field of study – Linguistics). This kind of work is of the utmost importance for junior bachelor students when they get acquainted with the culture of the studied languages, i.e., French or German (on the basis of the English language).
 Method and methodology of the work. Тhe basis of the research is formed bу descriptive method, theoretical analysis of scientific and methodological literature; analysis of the current state of the problem under study in the practice of teaching a foreign language; methods of empirical research: conversation, survey, observation; retrospective analysis of teachers’ own practical experience in foreign language educational activities.
 Results. The article shows an effective using of modern as well as popular folk songs, poems, fables of the studied languages. Music and poetry are the mediums of authentic cultural information and thus it helps not only a successful formation of verbal skills, but also it contributes to broadening a language picture of the world, instilling aesthetic taste. According to the authors, this approach leads to a positive motivation and strong educational and cognitive interest among students towards studied languages.
 Practical implications. The results of the study can be used in the practice of teaching French and German as the first and second foreign languages.
