Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the process of urban expansion in the town of Pau dos Ferros – RN, based on real estate allotment created in the period of 2007 to 2012 in Chico Caja neighborhood, in the south part of the town; an area which has been suffering a process of expansion and transformation in its urban space, because of its economic growth in this city which has acted as polarized center of economic activities which supply several smaller cities, located nearby. First of all, we made some readings related to the productions e organization of urban space, spatial practices and producer agents such as Correa (2000; 2005; 2011); Carlos (2005), Souza (2007), and also about the land as swap value and land allotment, discussed by Rodrigues (2003), as well as authors which writes about the production and organization of local urban space such as Praxedes (2010), Lima (2010), among others. After discussing the theory, a field research was carried out, by conducting interviews, in a qualitative level with the main agents which have acted and modified the urban space of the town like: real estate and fundiary agents, government and society, focusing on the first two agents, because they are the biggest responsible for the great changes in the urban space of this town, as well.
