Abstract
Este artigo analisa o sentido cruzadástico das práticas religiosas dos clérigos que participaram da conquista de México-Tenochtitlán (1519-1521). Tais práticas eram centradas no duplo desejo de expandir a fé cristã, ao mesmo tempo em que preparavam espiritualmente os conquistadores para as batalhas. Para tanto, utilizei como fontes os relatos de alguns ”soldados-cronistas” que participaram da expedição ao lado dos clérigos, principalmente a Historia verdadera, de Bernal Dáaz del Castillo (c. 1492-1584).
