Abstract

The objective of this study is analyze the changes in land use in mesoregions of Araraquara, Assis and São José do Rio Preto caused expansion of the sugarcane and other important agricultural activities. Were used shift-share method, which allowed the analysis of the variation of cultivated areas, broken down into effects scale and replacement. The analysis occured in two distinct periods: expansion of sugar cane (2000-2009) and crisis in the sugarcane industry (2010-2014). The growing participation of sugarcane occured basically by the incorporation of new cultivable areas and the replacement areas occupied by various crops, especially areas cultivated with pastures.
