Abstract

Transfers of Lasianthaea belizeana, Lasianthaea breedlovei, Otopappus jaliscensis, Oyedaea steyermarkii, Zexmenia guatemalensis, Zexmenia kingii, and Zexmenia salvinii require new combinations: Lundellianthus belizeanus, L. breedlovei, L. jaliscensis, L. guatemalensis, L. kingii, L. salvinii, and L. steyermarkii. Addition of L. harrimanii, known only from Nicaragua, brings the number of species in the genus to eight. Elsewhere (Strother 1989), I have indicated the need for a dismantling of Zexmenia Llave in Llave & Lex. As a step toward that end, three species are here transferred from their original placement in Zexmenia to Lundellianthus H. Rob- inson. Four additional species, two originally named in Lasianthaea DC. and one each in Oto- pappus Benth. and Oyedaea DC., are also trans- ferred. An eighth species of Lundellianthus is described here as new. The combination of basally connate paleae and disc achenes that are ? quadrate in tran- section and have a ? strong nerve on each of the four faces seems to constitute a reliable marker for members of Lundellianthus as here amended. Additional characteristics that help to distinguish most, if not all, members of the genus from members of related genera are: 1) the young stems are 6-angled or 6-ribbed; 2) the heads are solitary or in umbelliform clusters
