Abstract

Prescribed exercise can be a useful adjunct to diet and insulin therapy in the diabetic child. The acute and chronic effects of exercise in diabetic patients are reviewed. The physician can determine the appropriate exercise prescription and training method for a particular patient from information outlined in this article. Guidelines for participation in sports activities are also provided.
