Abstract

Abstract Excited states of 44 Ca have been studied using p-γ coincidence measurements with a Ge(Li) detector and p-γ angular correlations. Precise excitation energies have been obtained for 12 levels. Electromagnetic decay modes have been established for 10 levels, and branching ratios measured in 6 cases. The angular correlations yield a spin 1 assignment to the state at 3.661 MeV and spin 2 assignments to the states at 3.303 MeV, 3.775 MeV and 4.20 MeV, and also confirm a number of previous spin assignments. From the observed modes of decay we tentatively assign spin 4 or 5 to the state at 3.359 MeV. Multipole mixing ratios have been measured for 5 transitions from levels at 2.285 MeV, 2.657 MeV, 3.049 MeV and 3.775 MeV. A number of the levels may be classified fairly successfully in terms of seniority; possible deformed admixtures are suggested in some other states.
