Abstract

The rates of fluid solution emission decay (kobs) for planar Pt(diimine)X2 complexes (X = CN, aryl(acetylide), 1/2 toluene-3,4-dithiolate(tdt)) decrease with increasing concentration indicative of self-quenching. Values of kobs are obtained from a modified Stern−Volmer expression and approach the diffusion limit by association of excited- and ground-state monomers, possibly via Pt···Pt interaction. For Pt(phen)(CCPh)2, self-quenching is accompanied by excimer emission.
