Abstract

We discuss whether it is possible to excite electromagnetic surface waves within a structure consisting of two plane-parallel, twinned, anisotropic, gyrotropic layers with opposing gyration vectors that are perpendicular to the interface between these layers. We calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients of such a structure when the incident exciting bulk wave arrives at an oblique angle from a medium with higher optical density. We study the distribution of electromagnetic field energy density within the structure at peak transmission adjacent to, and within, the total-reflection zone.
