Abstract

The irradiation of natural tungsten with deuterons, gives rise to three radioactive tantalum species due to the following nuclear reactions: 184W ( d, α) 182Ta; 186W( d, α) 184Ta and 186W( d, αn) 183Ta. Calculations of the reaction energies were performed, and the excitation functions of these three reactions were determined with deuterons of up to 22 MeV. The cross-sections of the three reactions have values between 3 and 0·05 millibarn.
