Abstract

We have found a systematic variation of the exchange coupling in Fe/Cr multilayer films due to the addition of third elements (X = Ti, V, Mn, Nb, Mo and Ru) into Cr layers. It is inferred that the coupling strength increases with raising the Fermi level in Cr layers. In addition, it has been found that the oscillation period keeps constant for X = V, and by contrast, it increases for X = Ru.
