Abstract
Current-voltage characteristics which do not asymptotically approach those in the normal state at large voltages are an important feature of many superconducting junctions. Such devices are said to exhibit excess or deficit currents or voltages. Simple expressions for such currents are derived and their implications are discussed, pointing out the importance of studies of temperature dependence in such cases.
