Abstract

AbstractExcavations at Tell Umm Hammad esh-Sharqiya (November/December 1982) were sponsored by the British Institute at Amman for Archaeology and History and generously supported by the British Academy, the G. A. Wainwright Fund, the Central Research Fund (London University), the Palestine Exploration Fund, Mrs. E. Helms, the British Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, the British School of Archaeology in Jerusalem, Birmingham Museum, Bolton Museum and the Manchester Museum. Close co-operation with the Department of Antiquities of Jordan, especially through its Director Dr. Adnan Hadidi, contributed signally to the success of the excavations. Post-excavation work, including the continuation of clearance in the EB IV(EB–MB) cemetery (Tiwal esh-Sharqi: Appendix II) were carried out at the new archaeological station of Deir 'Alla through the kindness of Yarmouk University, the Department of Antiquities and Leiden University.
