Abstract
<h2>Abstract</h2> Restenosis remains a major limitation of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).1–4 An extensive literature has defined the risk factors for restenosis.4 Restenosis may be viewed as a complex process of abnormal myointimal cellular proliferation that potentially occurs in response to patient, dilatation site and procedural variables. The underlying cellular pathophysiology may relate to these characteristics. In understanding the process it is helpful to examine some risk factors in the absence of other risk factors. Thus, we have reviewed our experience of patients having 2 sites dilated, 1 of which had restenosis while the other remained patent. This paired comparison permitted the examination of site and procedural characteristics while holding patient characteristics constant.
