Abstract
The oxygen ordering around Bi in “Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8” high- T c superconductors is difficult to determine from diffraction experiments. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy investigations of the Bi short range order in such a case are more favourable. The present investigation yielded a shortest average BiO bond length of 2.13 Å. This value agrees with the structural model of Bordet et al. and rejects several other models of the BiO ordering.
