Abstract

the presence of malabsorption were evident in the hypercortisolemic phase. Therefore, we cannot know whether she experienced a reactivation of previously subclinical celiac disease or the true beginning of the malabsorptive disorder after remission of Cushing’s disease. Together with previous reports [4], this clinical history suggests that patients with adrenal hyperfunction may be “protected” against autoimmune disease. Besides focusing on early recognition [6] and treatment of relapsing hypercortisolism [7], during the postoperative follow-up, clinicians should also evaluate these patients for the possible occurrence of autoimmune disease.
