Abstract

Summary With their high selectivity and specificity especially in chiral reactions, natural enzymes are superior to all man-made catalysts. There are many reactions of interest, however, that just don't occur in their repertoire. With a range of innovative approaches, scientists are now able to create enzymes with entirely new activities. Michael Gross reports.
