Abstract

Protein biosynthesis is an ergodic Markov chain with stationary distribution. The evolution of this stochastic process is strictly dependent on the ordered structure of the genetic code. This code exerts constraints on protein sequences because the frequencies of occurence of the different amino acids result from the type of their respective coding. The nature of biosynthesized proteins is a result of strict architectural laws of the genetic coding process. The evolutionary selection does therefore not act on random biogenetic sequences.
