Abstract

This chapter launches into the historical stylistics of Indonesian cinema, tracing the evolution of visual style in the three periods of Indonesian cinema history: the Colonial Era, the Sukarno Era, and Suharto Era. The chapter does so by showcasing the continuity and changes of visual style in Indonesian cinema pertaining to the three stylistic devices that have become more salient in contemporary Indonesian cinematic aesthetics: lighting, production design and camera movement.
