Abstract
New mapping of the Tertiary rocks between Agate Bay and Freshwater Bay in the northern Olympic Peninsula, Washington, shows that the Twin River Formation is overlain by klippen of the older Lyre and Crescent Formations. Thrust faulting explains several apparent stratigraphic anomalies, such as the erratic distribution of the Lyre Formation and the apparent thinning of the Aldwell and Twin River Formations. These relations and the widespread presence of other thrust faults involving the Crescent Formation in the Olympic Peninsula suggest that thrust faulting is an important factor in the interpretation of the structure and stratigraphy of the region.
