Abstract
The critical issues in events tourism present a central part of the sectors’ debate in the 21st century. This includes but is not limited to different economic, technological, industry, policy and socio-economic perspectives underpinning event tourism studies. It showcases best practice examples, raises managerial and political implications, formulates conceptual frameworks and advances understanding on key operational and policy concerns. In this introductory chapter, the authors aim to present the core concepts of events tourism with a critical focus. This chapter is typical of the wide range of critical events tourism research with contributing chapters grouped under four broad categories: (1) fundamental concepts, (2) contemporary perspectives, (3) regeneration, displacement and planning frameworks and (4) the future of events tourism.
