Abstract

The event industry, as an essential contributor to economic development, develops rapidly in Asian countries. This chapter reviews the size and scope of the exhibition sector in China and conducts a comparative investigation into the host cities. Results reveal a pyramid structure in the competitive pattern of the Chinese exhibition industry. Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, as the first-tier event host cities, made the Top Three list. Shenzhen and Tianjin took the lead of the second-tier and third-tier event host cities, respectively. Furthermore, an examination of event management education in both Chinese universities and higher vocational colleges are presented. Results show that China’s event management higher education has a practical orientation. The event industry and the event higher education are closely related and have reinforced each other. The findings provide insight into the existing problems and development trends in the event management higher education.
