Abstract

The objective of this article is to discuss, from the perspective of high school teachers, the school dropout phenomenon. We chose a qualitative, case-study approach. The research participants were 33 high school teachers. It is verified that, even in the face of advances in Brazilian legislation in relation to this stage, the problem of school dropout persists among Brazilian youth and adolescents. In this sense, we conclude that the socioeconomic conditions of the students contribute to school drop-out, as well as aspects related to personal and subjective questions. That said, the precariousness of teaching work, such as low salaries, lack of didactic resources, among others, contribute, according to teachers, to school dropout in high school. &nbsp
