Abstract

A transpiration apparatus suitable for measuring the vapor densities of PbO- and CdO-containing glass melts up to 1300°C is described. The evaporation products were collected quantitatively by use of borosilicate glass wool filters. Both inert and reactive atmosphere could be used. The lead-containing glasses had PbO contents between 3.2 and 10.5 mol% and the Cd-containing glass had a CdO content of about 2.5 wt.%. The vapor pressure data are reported and the influence of different atmosphere is discussed.
