Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of teaching method based on PDCA concept on the standardized training of geriatric residents, and provide the standardized training of geriatric residents with effective training methods. Method The 50 resident doctors, who entered the senile internal medicine department of The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2015 for receiving the standardized training, were divided into the traditional teaching group and the improved group with 25 in each group. The traditional teaching group was given coaching according to the previous training mode for physi-cians engaging in advanced studies. While for the improved group, the PDCA concept was put into the teaching management of the standardized training on the basis of the traditional teaching mode, the tutorial system was brought in, and the theoretical knowledge, clinical skills training, research capability training and case analysis capability training were strengthened. The training took 2 months in total. Two months later, a comprehensive assessment was conducted to compare the difference between the two groups in terms of the theoretical knowledge, the clinical skills, the research capability and the case analysis. SPSS 22.0 was applied to processing the data and the two groups of data were given a t test. Results Compared with the traditional teaching group, the improved group has made great progress in terms of the theoretical knowledge [(92.48±3.28) vs. (89.12±3.17)], the clinical skills [(42.20±2.33) vs. (40.08±2.04)], the case analysis [(42.08±2.29) vs. (39.84±2.15)] and the research capability [(41.12±2.22) vs. (39.12±2.26)]. Conclusion The teaching method based on PDCA concept adopted in the standardized training of geri-atric residents can significantly enhance the training quality of geriatric resident trainees.
