Abstract

The use of water from wells is a necessity in urban and rural areas, depending on population development and the lack of quick and effective water distribution. Thus, this research aimed to evaluate the water quality of artesian wells located in the municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde - MT. In the methodology, microbiological analysis was carried out and the physical-chemical parameters of water samples were evaluated, collected in wells distributed in the urban area of the city without access to the water and sewage treatment network. The results showed that 70% of the samples were contaminated by total and thermotolerant coliforms and the presence of Escherichia coli, in addition to irregularities in the physicochemical analyses. It was found that the areas under study had incorrect infrastructure of water collection wells, drilled in environments considered inappropriate and without proper maintenance. Technical reports were presented to the owners of the wells, with the aim of making them aware of the risks of consuming contaminated water and guiding them to solve this problem. It is concluded that the research was of great importance encouraging further studies to be carried out.
