Abstract

The shear strength of the film formed by pre-oxidation treatment of FeCrAl(-ODS) alloys, likely to be used as pipework material for liquid LiPb breeder blankets, was evaluated by micro double-notch shear testing. Fracture generally occurred at the interface between the oxide film and the alloy substrate, but the pop- in the stress-strain curves was difficult to interpret, so all the test results in this study were compared to the full rupture strength. The rupture strength appears to be a function of the nature of the interface between the film and the alloy rather than the thickness of the film; for APMT and FeCrAl-ODS, the rupture strength was greater for FeCrAl-ODS.
