Abstract

This study surveyed Dimapur District to identify the accessibility of safe drinking water and deduce the prevalence of harmful contaminants in water. 64 water samples collected from various point sources of Dimapur District were analysed. Nine parameters namely, pH, EC, TDS, DO, Fe, SO42-, TH, NO3– and PO43- were selected based on their importance in water quality to evaluate the permissibility of water sources for human consumption using Water Quality Index, Statistical Correlation and Principal Component Analysis. Understanding the water situation in the Dimapur district would lead to plans for potential urban water management in other districts of Nagaland.
