Abstract

Roll drawing is a metal forming process that, unlike classical drawing, allows us to obtain a reduction in the metal wire section with a notable reduction in the forces and without thermal or chemical treatment of the wires. Unlike the traditional process, there is, however, a lack of knowledge as regards the main process parameters. In the following study, FEM analyses were carried out to verify the suitability of two analytical models for evaluating the maximum spread of the wires and the drawing force for a drawing process through flat rolls of steel wires. Experimental tests then highlighted the suitability of these analytical models, potentially valuable tools for the determination of drawing parameters and the on-line control of the process.
