Abstract

Some special features of the soils depending on natural-historical reality and agricultural production require evaluation of soil quality in a comparative form. From this point study of the contemporary state of the soil fertility of the Kur-Araz lowland of Azerbaijan is one of the problems assuming an important urgency for its evaluation, and hence was objective of this study. The fertility state of 15 main soil types and subtypes of the zone was defined and evaluated by their quality. Grey-brown fertile soils were evaluated with high score 100 and grey or greybrown soils with more salinity and alkalinity areas defined as a soil with low fertility ( 50). In the latter the reclamation methods should be considered for increasing soil quality and production level.
