Abstract

We have been conducting research on risk reduction measures for operating small UAVs. In this paper, we present preliminary experiments to confirm the necessity of protective glasses for small UAV operations. Specifically, preliminary experiments were conducted in which the rotating propeller (22 inch or 15 inch) of a small UAV was collided with various types of protective glasses and vision correction glasses. On the other hand, the experiment confirmed the effectiveness and trend of protective eyewear. Protective glasses certified by impact safety standards (EN166B, ANSI Z87.1) were confirmed the ability of the risk reduction. However, some protective glasses were also found to be inadequate.
