Evaluation of the adequacy, suitability and use of educational technology in selected faculties of education in Nigeria

Abstract

This study evaluated the adequacy, suitability and use of educational technology in selected faculties of education in Nigerian universities. The study was carried out using the National Universities Commission (NUC) minimum academic standard as the basis for the evaluation. Data were collected through the use of educational technology Evaluation questionnaire (ETEQ) and observation guide for educational/technology centres (OGETC). Two universities were involved using purposive and random sampling techniques. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Two hundred students were used for the study. The findings indicated that educational technology centre in each university was also used, that educational technology met minimum academic standard for universities. Facilities and equipment in the sampled universities were inadequate when compared with the number of students especially at this age of information communication technology, so that the pedagogical needs of student teachers can be adequately met. The existing educational technology courses were considered inadequate if student teachers would be given the required knowledge and skills that would enhance system approach to instructional planning.
