Abstract
In the data service of the 3/sup rd/ generation mobile phone (3G mobile) system, TCP throughput is affected by dynamic bandwidth assignment based on the number of users in the cell and data traffic of the user etc. However, even if a user can obtain sufficient bandwidth for data communication, they may not be able to obtain good TCP throughput. This is apparently due to TCP retransmissions caused by errors in the radio link of 3G mobile. This study uses computer simulation of the cdma2000 1x system, which is a 3G mobile system, to investigate the behavior of user traffic. This paper describes the results of the investigation of TCP throughput affected by the radio link of the cdma2000 1x system. Various TCP parameters are evaluated based on the simulations performed by combinations of various system parameters of the cdma2000 1x system and TCP parameters.
