Evaluation of Site Selection Suitability for Desalination Based on GIS: An Example of Coastal Zone in Tianjin

Abstract

Based on sufficient investigation and study of desalination project, taking Tianjin coastal zone for example, the evaluation index system of site selection for desalination project has been established from two aspects of location suitability and resources and environment suitability, and then this article screens out four main factors: compliance with related planning, coordination with marine functional zoning, quality of surrounding seawater, exchange capacity of surrounding seawater. The integrated suitability map layer of desalination for Tianjin coastal zone has been generated on the basis of weighed overlay model by means of single factor evaluation and classification. The research shows that, the central and the southern coastal zone is suitable for developing desalination project, the northern and the southern ends are unsuitable for developing desalination project, and the estuaries and the north-central area are normal region for developing desalination project.
