Abstract
Background: There are various methods for detecting sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) using a vital dye and radioisotope is currently convenient and safe, intraoperatively preparative method to assess lymph node status. In this study we have analyzed breast lymphatic drainage pathways using ICG fluorescence imaging. The primary objective of this feasibility study was to determine the sensitivity and safety of ICG fluorescence imaging in sentinel lymph node identification when combined with blue dye and radiocolloid. We compared the combination of radioisotope or dye with a fluorescence compound to analyze lymph flow to identify targets for SLNB.
