Abstract
High modulus asphalt mixture (HMAM) is one of the most effective materials to address the rutting problems of pavement. The objective of this study is to investigate the correlations between high modulus asphalt mixture (HMAM) and the anti-rutting performance based on the modulus index. Hard binder and different HMAM additives were used to produce different HMAM. Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) modified asphalt mixture was adopted for comparison. The dynamic modulus of five asphalt mixture including one asphalt mixture with hard binder, one asphalt mixture with HMAM additive A, one SBS modified mixture with HMAM additive B, two kinds of SBS modified asphalt were investigated by simple performance test (SPT). The temperature of SPT test were 5°C, 20°C, and 54°C, respectively. The frequency of SPT test were 0.1 Hz, 1 Hz, 5 Hz, 10 Hz and 25Hz, respectively. The rutting performance of high modulus asphalt mixture was studied by wheel track test with dynamic stability (DS). The results show that the ratio of 0.1Hz dynamic modulus to 25Hz dynamic modulus (dynamic modulus ratio) with 54 °C shown the best correlation with a R2 of 0.855 with DS of HMAM. And the rutting resistance can be enhanced by improving the dynamic modulus ratio.
