Abstract

The evaluation of proton recoil spectra having large statistical fluctuations can be improved by the following operations in Fourier domain: smoothing, using a Gaussian function as low pass frequency filter and inverse filtering with the measured response function before multiplying by −2πiν as differentiation. This results in pure Gaussian shapes for the neutron lines. The line intensities are then no longer influenced by correlated ripples outside the lines and the errors in determining the line intensities are reduced by widening by lines.
