Abstract

An evaluation is made to determine the suitability of fine grained ferroelectric ceramic Pb0.91La0.09Zr0.65Ti0.35 O3 (PLZT) for applications in optical modulators. It was found that the electro-optic effect in the PLZT material substantially decreases at high frequencies. Comparisons of PLZT with other electro-optic materials and comparisons of the electrode geometries suitable for ceramics and for single crystals are made.
