Abstract

Numerical modelling has been applied to study a dependence of line profiles in emission spectra of inhomogeneous absorbing thermal plasmas on the plasma inhomogeneity and self-absorption rates. Atomic lines broadened mainly by quadratic Stark effect have been considered. The relations are found between the values of the plasma self-absorption and inhomogeneity rate and with some of the line profile features, including their halfwidths, dips and peak separations. The ratios of the profile parameters are proposed, which do not depend on plasma temperature and can be used for the plasma characterization.
