Abstract

This study is on the laboratory evaluation of efficacy of citronella oil, lemongrass oil, patchouli oil, Vitex negundo leaf powder and Leucas indica leaf powder against pulse beetle Callosobruchus chinensis on stored Flemingia macrophylla seeds. The oils were evaluated @ 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 ml/kg seeds, while the leaf powders were applied @ 0.5, 1, 5, 10 and 15 g/kg seed. Among the plant oils, citronella oil was found to be superior with 100% mortality at 72 hr at all doses; and of the leaf powders Leucas indica gave maximum mortality at all the doses. The oviposition inhibition and adult emergence reduction were maximum with citronella oil followed by lemongrass oil and patchouli oil; and among the leaf powders L. indica was superior.
