Abstract

Composites being the advanced materials finding its application in many of the fields. Bumper reinforcement beam can be made of composite if it proves crash worthiness with less weight to reduce emission in vehicles. Shear thickening fluid (STF) is one of the magneto- rheological fluids which exhibits a property of becoming hard on impact which are required of above application [1].In the current investigation, a hybrid composite made of jute/E-glass with epoxy resin is characterized for mechanical properties such as hardness and tension for varying jute/E-glass fiber ratio. Also the tests were repeated by adding a fourth element STF to investigate the effect on the above said properties. The composites were fabricated by hand lay-up technique and the specimens were tailored according to ASTM standards by wire cutting method. From the investigation it can be concluded that composite containing lower jute fiber loading with STF shows comparatively better results than the other composites tested.
