Abstract

In order to investigate a key parameter governing the fatigue strength of adhesive-bonded CFRP pipe/steel rod joints, a series of rotating bending fatigue tests was carried out on the joints with different lap lengths and with different pipe thicknesses. Fatigue test data were discussed on the basis of stress distributions in the adhesive layer determined by FEM analysis. The results indicated that the fatigue strength of the joint mainly depended on the maximum tensile stress normal to the adhesive/adherend interface at the lap end.
