Abstract
Vehicle fleet electrification is one of the main targets of the following decades, as a measure to decarbonize the transport sector. Electric urban busses consist of a solution for upgrading the bus fleet aiming to an improvement of urban areas and city centres air quality. The main target of this study is to describe a combined experimental and simulation methodology for the evaluation of battery electric busses energy consumption under real world conditions. Simulation models were used to predict the energy consumption under different driving conditions and quantify the impact of operating parameters the energy consumption performance. The outcome of the study provides a basis for the evaluation of the battery electric busses under different driving conditions and for the definition of the critical selection criteria for electric busses applied to public transportation systems.
