Abstract

Direct detection of amoxicillin (AMX) was achieved at a carbon paste electrode modified with [-ethylenebis(salicylideneaminato)]oxovanadium(IV), [VO(Salen)]. It was observed that the current of the redox couple at the electrode surface increases proportionally to the log of AMX concentration. The electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry and analytical curves were obtained for AMX using linear sweep (LSV), differential pulse (DPV), and square-wave voltammetry (SWV) under optimized conditions. Limits of detection at 24.8, 16.6, and were observed in LSV, DPV and SWV, respectively. The SWV method using the modified electrode was applied in the determination of AMX in pharmaceutical formulations (tablets) and compared with the iodimetric method.
