Abstract

Breadfruit and cocoyam starches have been evaluated as exodisintegrants in formulated paracetamol tablets and compared with corn starch. Tablet disintegration time and the hardness-friabrasion/disintegration time ratio were used to assess the disintegrant efficacy of the starches. Generally, it was found that the rank order of efficacy was corn starch > cocoyam starch > breadfruit starch. However, tablets containing the experimental starches had higher hardness values than those containing corn starch and may be useful in particular tablet formulations.
