Abstract

Evaluating public participation geographic information systems (PP GIS) is essential to make improvements and generate standard practices for future projects, but it is probably the most neglected activity of the PP GIS development cycle. This research makes a contribution to the scarce information available about the usefulness of these systems in planning practice. The research examined the use of the PP GIS which was developed during last five years under the sponsorship of the Dutch Ministry of Spatial Planning, Social Housing and Environment, called "The New Map of the Netherlands".
